TikTok has signed an agreement allowing the creation of a U.S.-based joint venture required by law to avoid a ban in the United States, according to an internal memo from the head of the Chinese-owned social media platform. TikTok and its owner, the Chinese group ByteDance, signed the agreement with three investors, the Oracle group owned by billionaire Larry Ellison, investment firm Silver Lake, and Emirati fund MGX, according to the CEO’s internal memo, which was revealed by U.S. media.

The signing had been expected since September, when Donald Trump announced that an agreement had been reached following intense negotiations between Washington and Beijing over the future of the social network, which is highly popular among young people and has been the subject of numerous controversies worldwide.
